Xanadu Indoor Playcentre and Cafe

Xanadu Indoor Playcentre and Café is owned and managed by a not-for-profit organisation: Life in Community Pty Ltd. 100% of the profits support charities and service providers working with disadvantaged families in the community. When you bring your children for a play at Xanadu, host a birthday party or book a private function: ‘your play spreads kindness.’ We want to reflect the community in which we operate, so we hire people from diverse cultural and language backgrounds, as well as people with disabilities. Each of our staff are committed to our purpose as a charity. They bring a range of experiences, skills, talents and abilities to our playcentre experience.
Here are some of the ways we have given back to the community at Xanadu:
  • A special ‘play day’ with age-appropriate grief counselling activities for a Grade 1 one class from a local primary school that unexpectedly lost their teacher in a car accident.
  • We’ve donated over 5000 free entry passes to hospitals, schools and disadvantaged families
  • Hosted free weekly meetings for mothers and toddlers from a local Women’s Shelter.
  • We have given out over 20 special emergency support packs ($55 each) for women that have lost a baby during pregnancy and connected them to the relevant community support groups for ongoing care.
  • We host special play dates for families with children with autism and disabilities (where the playcentre is closed to the general public)

  • We provide a safe place for ‘buddy-mentoring’ between children and adults to safely interact (for children suffering from grief and trauma).
  • We have funded special birthday parties for children who have unexpectedly lost a sibling or a parent.
  • We have provided our venue at no cost for not-for profit community based groups to run fundraising event and activities that directly support families at risk.
  • Special family parties where food & toy hampers are given to families doing it tough. This is done in collaboration with a variety of volunteer community based support groups that we work with.
  • We are a safe place for supervised visits with DHS (Department of Human Services) between children and care-givers. This happens on a weekly basis.
  • We run a community knitting program for the homeless each Winter.
